Oh, summer. We’ve waited all year for you to come around again! Sure, summertime may mean many different things to different people, but there’s no question that it’s inherently associated with positive vibes. More family time, longer days, the beach! Yes, yes. Also unbearable heat, mosquitos and kids out of school...for months... Ok. It’s got its pros and cons! But it’s the pros that we’re going to focus on today and keep the good vibes going strong, because summer brings many health benefits that you may not have even realized! Here are just a few of the many perks of the season that you can take advantage of to have fun and stay healthy in summer.

1. Get a Healthy Amount of Sunshine

Moderate sun exposure allows your body to produce vitamin D, may improve sleep quality, and may help your immunity. During the summer you can catch some rays on the beach, in the park, or even going on a walk. If you’re stuck in the office all day, consider bringing your lunch outside. Just make sure to always wear sunscreen!

2. Have Fun & Get Exercise with Outdoor Activities

Take advantage of the warm weather to be adventurous! This can be a great time to venture a little bit outside of your comfort zone and try something you’ve never tried before. Summertime comes with a slew of fun, healthy outdoor activities you could consider. Here are just a few, with varying degrees of adventure ;)

● Kayaking
● Paddleboarding
● Trying a new running trail
● Hiking
● Walking the dog
● Swimming
● Surfing
● Biking
● Sailing

Testing out even one of these activities that you haven’t done before will work muscles you haven’t gotten to use while being stuck inside all winter. Take advantage!

3. As Always, Eat Healthy to Stay Healthy

Many fruits and vegetables are in season during the summer, so they’ll be cheaper and more easily accessible at your local grocery store. Search for fruits and veggies with a higher water content, such as watermelon and cucumbers, to hydrate your body a little more -- we could all use a little extra hydration! You can even go pick fresh strawberries, blueberries, and more as another fun outdoor activity!

4. Less Screen Time

Another perk of spending more time outside is that it allows you to disconnect. Step away from the social media and reconnect with nature for an improved outlook on life. And bring the whole family with you for some quality bonding time!

5. Relieve Stress With Vacations

Ah, summer vacation. With the kids home from school and plentiful long weekends, it’s the perfect opportunity to travel. Pick a summer vacation destination that will allow you to relieve stress and catch up on some well-deserved relaxation. It doesn’t have to be far from home, either! As well as making memories to last a lifetime, you’ll come home feeling rejuvenated and maybe even reduce your chances of catching a cold by allowing yourself some extra rest.

Summer flashes by in the blink of an eye. Make sure to take advantage of the season’s health benefits before it passes you by!
