These gloriously lazy summer “daze”, filled with salty beach hair and sun kissed skin, are coming to a close, despite our pouting and protests. That means it’s time to prepare for cold season.
While the summer may be fading away, that Vitamin D *glow* doesn’t have to. And if you happen to catch a cold this season, that healthy glow may even help keep the “sick look” from getting too extreme! Follow these quick and easy steps, and you’ll be radiating health and warmth all year long.
How to keep your summer glow:
1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Then hydrate some more! Seriously: water is the essence of life, and (we can’t emphasize this enough) the secret to glowing skin. Summer months are hot and humid, so we’re constantly drinking plenty of water to quench that never-ending thirst. So it’s no coincidence that your skin might look better in the summer!
The advent of autumn may have you wanting to switch to coffee, but that has the potential to leave you dehydrated and your skin dried out. If coffee is a must-have in your life, try to match every cup of coffee with a glass of water, on top of your regular summer water intake, to balance out your hydration and keep your skin glowing all year long.
2. Exfoliate and Moisturize
We like to wear fresh, clean clothes, and our skin does too, so this two-step process will keep your skin fresh and supple all winter long. Exfoliation is key- it will help get rid of dead skin cells and dry patches, and uncover the smooth skin hiding underneath. After exfoliating your face and body, you must moisturize both. A gentle moisturizer will protect your skin, and paired with ample water will keep it soft, smooth, and glowing throughout winter.
3. Hands off!
Avoid touching your face, as it can add oils to your skin and allow the germs and toxins on your fingers to get into your pores. Your skin will be left clogged and dirty, rather than clean and glowing!
4. Self-Tanning Lotion
Skip the tanning bed and avoid the lines from spray tans. A gradual self-tanning lotion is an easy and safer way to keep your skin looking bronzed during the colder months. Keep an eye out for one with natural ingredients! This tanned look will enhance your skin’s glow and give you that “fresh off the beach” aura. And if you do go out in the sun, remember to use the proper sunscreen protection!
Summer itself is generally a more relaxing time. You don’t have to wake up early to shovel snow, pack lunches, or bus kids from one activity to the next. This slight reduction in activity may translate into more time to relax and rejuvenate your body. So this winter, make sure to take time for yourself, whether you get a massage, or squeeze in a 20 minute nap,this small effort may help ward off those unwanted dark circles, manage stress and hopefully leave you feeling and looking more energized and healthy.
